EMDR Intensives -

For Deeper Trauma Healing Without Weekly Therapy

What are EMDR Intensives?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing intensives are extended therapy sessions designed to allow for deeper, more continuous processing than is typically possible in traditional weekly therapy.

Instead of one hour per week, we work in extended blocks of time so you can stay connected to the healing process without losing momentum between sessions.

This allows for deeper continuity, greater emotional processing, and often faster progress.

Why People Choose Intensives

Clients often choose intensives because they want:

  • Feeling stuck in talk therapy

  • Intellectual insight without emotional change

  • Limited weekly time or inconsistent scheduling

  • Desire for faster, more focused progress

  • Emotional exhaustion or burnout

Extended, immersive therapy sessions designed to create space for deeper emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and meaningful therapeutic momentum beyond the limits of weekly therapy.

What Is The Experience Like?

1. Preparation & Planning (prior session required)
We identify goals, history, and target memories, and build emotional safety tools.

Before any intensive work, we meet to:

  • Understand your history and goals

  • Identify target memories or themes

  • Build emotional regulation and grounding tools

  • Ensure the intensive format is a good clinical fit

This step is essential for safety and effectiveness.

2. EMDR Processing Block
Focused EMDR sessions designed to process and reduce distress connected to specific experiences.

During your scheduled intensive:

  • We work in extended, focused EMDR sessions

  • We target specific memories or emotional patterns

  • You are supported throughout with breaks as needed

  • The goal is meaningful emotional processing, not overwhelm

You remain in control of the pace at all times.

3. Integration & Grounding
Time to reflect, stabilize, and leave with clear coping supports.

After your intensive work, we focus on:

  • Stabilization and grounding

  • Reflecting on changes

  • Strengthening coping tools

  • Planning next steps if needed

Healing doesn’t end when the session does, this phase helps it settle.

Frequently asked questions about EMDR Intensive therapy

FAQs

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing intensives are extended therapy sessions designed to allow for deeper, more continuous trauma processing than is typically possible in standard weekly therapy. Instead of working in shorter increments over time, intensives create dedicated space for focused therapeutic work and nervous system integration.

  • Weekly therapy offers gradual, ongoing support in 50-minute sessions. EMDR intensives provide extended blocks of time that allow us to move beyond session-to-session fragmentation and engage more fully with core patterns, trauma responses, and emotional material without interruption. This format can support greater continuity and momentum in the healing process.

  • Intensives may be a good fit if you:

    • Feel stuck in traditional weekly therapy

    • Want deeper or faster progress

    • Struggle with anxiety, trauma, or emotional overwhelm

    • Have limited availability for weekly sessions

    • Prefer a more focused, immersive therapeutic experience

    • Are navigating burnout, chronic stress, or life transitions

  • No. Some clients come to intensives after years of therapy, while others begin their work directly in this format. We will complete a consultation first to determine whether this approach is clinically appropriate for your needs.

  • Intensives are offered in extended formats, which may include multi-hour sessions such as 3-hour, 6-hour, or longer blocks depending on your needs and clinical recommendations. The structure is tailored to support depth while also maintaining emotional safety and regulation.

  • We begin with grounding and preparation to ensure you feel safe and supported. From there, we move into structured EMDR processing, allowing space to work through relevant memories, patterns, and emotional experiences. The session also includes integration time to help your nervous system settle and make meaning of the work.

  • The pace of an intensive is intentionally structured to support emotional safety and regulation. We work collaboratively and at a pace your nervous system can tolerate. Breaks are built in as needed, and the goal is always to stay within a window of safety and stability.

  • This varies from person to person. Some clients experience meaningful relief in a single intensive, while others benefit from a series of sessions over time. We will discuss a recommended plan based on your goals and clinical presentation.

  • Yes. Intensives are available to clients located in both Ohio and Florida via secure telehealth, in accordance with state licensure requirements.

  • The first step is a brief consultation to determine fit, goals, and scheduling. If we decide an intensive is appropriate, we will create a plan tailored to your needs and availability.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for a more focused approach to healing, EMDR intensives may be a meaningful next step.
